the month of The Advent

December = The month of Preparation and Creating Peace

  • Embracing the Advent Season

    December is a month of anticipation and reflection, a time to prepare for the arrival of the holiday season. The Advent season, with its themes of hope, love, joy, and peace, offers a much-needed respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

  • Finding Peace in the Advent Season

    In a world filled with noise and distractions, the Advent season provides an opportunity for quiet contemplation and personal growth. By embracing the themes of Advent, we can cultivate a sense of peace and tranquility within ourselves.

  • Preparing for Change

    The Advent season is a time of preparation, not only for the holidays but also for personal transformation. By focusing on the themes of hope, love, joy, and peace, we can work towards positive changes in our lives.

  • Advent Calendar: Open a small gift or read a devotional each day.

    When I was growing up, I always looked forward to December 1st. Not only did it kick off the month of Christmas (and Chamuka like many of my friends) but, more importantly, it was the day I got to open the first door of my cardboard Advent calendar and enjoy a special treat or activity.

  • Advent calendars remind me that the weight of holiday joy need not rest on a single party or gift or day. Instead, the spirit of the season can be savored slowly: kind of like that mediocre piece of chocolate melting on my tongue.

The ADVENT WREATH Tradition -

The Advent wreath, with its four candles representing hope, faith, joy, and peace, is a popular tradition during this season. Lighting a new candle each week symbolizes the anticipation and joy leading up to Christmas.

What do the five candles of Advent mean?

#1 A green candle, symbolizing FAITH, is lit on the first Sunday that begins on or around November 15; on the second Sunday,

#2 a blue candle, symbolizing HOPE,

#3 is lit; on the third Sunday, a gold candle, symbolizing LOVE,

#4 on the fourth Sunday, a white candle, symbolizing PEACE;

#5 and for Christians, the fifth Sunday, a purple candle, symbolizing the arrival of the child, Jesus.
