NEW PRODUCT PICKS FROM SPRING MARKET: Everything from the curved sofa to the new burst of colors not seen before.

High Point Market week occurs twice a year for designers to meet with new and established vendors. Despite ongoing industry challenges during years of Covid limitations, this year was strong in attendance, and showroom openings. We actually didn’t need masks.

An interior designer’s business is all about the perfect resource for our clients, and High Point Market (HPMkt) is a treasure trove of new furniture, fabrics, and the latest in colors and textures. If there is a new interiors trend occurring in the home environment, you will see it here first. It is also wonderful to learn the backstory and meet the people behind the products. It’s just one giant party as everyone is vying for designers to see their latest introductions and updates.

Colors seen at Market: Throughout the show, you’ll find colors and textures like terrazzo and tiled flooring, alongside olive, burgundy, and lemon yellow patterned fabrics, boucle was everywhere, with an increasing focus on handmade and local artists – a nod to authentic, with Italian design influences in rich tones.

HIGH POINT MARKET Insider’s Tour!

My feet were hurting, but my heart was full. My week at HPMkt was further enriched by leading an insiders tour: “High Point Market Insider’s Tour” for one full day, and sharing some of the best resources at High Point Market. ( learn more about the tour here) I have made some new designer friends that are nationwide and are now industry insiders, and we have a special chat group that will continue hopefully through the years.

What Home Decor Updates Did We See for 2023?

We trail blazed through the market for the latest buzz on what is important. As a returning attendee to HPMKT each year, you become very savvy about seeing the best that High Point Market has to offer. I am sharing with you today, the most notable products and introductions in my view.

Top Product Finds

  • Swivel Chairs: The swivel chair was a strong feature with every manufacturer seen.

  • Sectionals: Curves and more curves. Sectionals are becoming more sculptural and conversational. This shape lends itself to the conversation.

  • Ottomans & Benches: Reproductions are gaining a place in our rooms, as antiques make their way back into our rooms. This year with supply chain issues and long lead times, the Antique + Design Center is usually cleaned out with home furniture needs that are immediate. A sign of the changing times we live in. Vintage is back, out of convenience.

Top Colors and Motifs

  • Greenery, blues, and golds are everywhere in silvery sage velvets, to branch motif drapery and wallpaper. See my post on the latest colors seen at HPMkt. “ A Nod to Color For Your Home .”

  • White with hints of color. Gone is the stark white and grey sofa or chair.

  • Earthy tones of burnt umber, and copper, were also companions to sage green and light blue greens to teal.

  • Popular Motifs included twigs and branches, with dappled texture on pottery

  • New Coastal Modern: Clean and modern. See Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams's latest catalog this Spring was all on point with indoor-outdoor collections. Check it out here.

Playing Favorites with High Point Market Treasure Trove:

There is never enough time to see everything at High Point, it can be exhausting. But after five days of seeking and learning, I am sharing the following as notable highlights and new introductions as seen at the market.

My Top 10 Favorite Items

Seen At High Point Market

1. The Curve was Everywhere

Organic materials and sculptural shapes from our natural world. Yes, the curved sectional, was in every showroom in fabrics of soft green, textural greens, and performance whites with a hint of color. Seen both in large or small, furniture that embraces the conversation at home.

The curved sectional for dining or living room dominated the scene in all sizes and styles. Like this California chic by Four Hands to the Miami modern with channel tufting by Eichholtz.

Even curvy coffee tables were found

2. Let’s talk new in Color for 2023?

Design through a fresh lens. Think forward to interiors for a colorful living. High Point Market is always an indicator of the biggest and best color trends for 2022 and beyond.

MORE COLOR: We saw lots of earthy colors, everything from terra cotta and yellow to cognac color influences - fashion and color expert-approved trends any home or design lover should know. You may not see them everywhere yet, but they are coming, and it is a refreshing shift away from grey and stark whites.

Lots of boucle. soft textural and in off-white or camel colors. This is not a new fabric use, since we saw a lot of it in 2019, but when approaching a clean modern look it is on-trend for its textural addition to environments without the stark white.

Color is here on sectionals, sofas, and chairs in an earthy fresh color. Loving the use of color, and the evolution of whites, white with a hint of color, was seen in most showrooms as we are no longer seeing those stark whites.

Baker Furniture: color of the year, Sage, silvery Green is everywhere.

New colors in natural linen and caramel with teal and a lighter teal blue, with a grounding in sage and dew, as seen: Norwalk Furniture: Kim Salema

Awesome textured fabrics for 2022: The dominant fabric seen at the market, is boucle. Someone suggested a drinking game for every time someone mentions boucle when reviewing all seen and heard at Market.

Benjamin Moore Colors for 2022-23: Sage, Pale Moon, High Park, Hint of Violet.

3. Some of My Favorite Furniture Finds?

The Swivel Chair. This style of chair was a predominant piece in every showroom setting we attended. High style with comfort. I love sitting in a swivel. I think people are kinetic and like to move. It’s comforting and enjoyable to sit on something that moves and is not rigid. People like to move especially when talking or watching tv.

Small scale, yet super comfortable for both the tall and petite in our group, and nice looking. sold!

Also perfect for the office desk chair….

ok, this was my #1.

Tailor-made and beautifully upholstered swivel with legs. This was my fave with the exposed legs and swivel ability. sold! Thibaut always delights.

Furniture with sculptural shapes. Inspired by Italian in rich materials, sculpted yet functional.

Nuevo: This was one of my favorite showrooms. Many pieces seen this market have taken on a sculptural shape. This table with its textured shape makes it. a focal point while highlighting a luxurious material.

4. Gold and White!

White is still here, just shifting for 2023?

HPMkt is always an indicator of the biggest and best color trends for 2022 and beyond.

While we saw lots of changes in color in the home this year, white has not gone away, it has shifted. w. White with hints of color ( greens & blues woven in ) accompanied with gold was a common sight to behold. Showrooms with stark whites and greys, just looked stale. You may not see them everywhere yet, but these new color directions are coming, and it is a refreshing shift away from grey and stark whites.

Technicolor is here. Sectionals, sofas, and chairs in color. With the use of color, and the evolution of whites, we saw the use of white with a hint of color, we are no longer seeing those stark whites.

White and gold in the bedroom. Note the bench fabric in white with hints of blue and gold threads at Kravet.

Sculptural, and and textural with gold accents at Eichholtz. ( They also had a great party to start market )

5. Three Companies with Value Propositions

Jaipur Living: Another market favorite.  We never tire of this wonderful collection of rugs and pillows.  This is a trade-only manufacturer, but I would be happy to price an option for you if you are interested.

Jaipur has stood the test of time with a broad range of premium rugs for a couple of reasons: 1. Their product is exceptional. 2. A broad range of pricing. 3. How we partner with their creators and customers – they aren’t just selling rugs, they support their workers and their families, women who are artists, and many times widowed or divorced, making them outcasts of their society with minimal means to make a living.

Jaipur Living: Exceptional rugs by artists

Aloka Home: Another market favorite presented by Amy Flurry and embraced by all that came into contact with this wonderful initiative and product. .  Amy is based in Atlanta, and her product Aloka is committed to seeking potential in existing resources to create beautiful, well-designed products for the home interiors trade.
